Activities

The island of Hawaii is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and a natural honeymoon destination. There is no place on the island that cannot be visited comfortably within a day, as the farthest point is just about three hours away. We overlook Manini Beach, which is a great location for ocean swimming and snorkeling. Ho'okena Beach, a little farther to the south, is a beach visited mostly by locals; Robert Louis Stevenson and Jack London both wrote here.

The monument to the English explorer Captain Cook is visible from Ho'onanea; the base of this monument is arguably the best snorkel and scuba site in the state. Below, down Napo'opo'o Road, is Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park which offers a unique look at Hawaii’s cultural past and Pu’uhonua’s role as a sanctuary, as well as the preservation of Hawaiian lifestyle that is occurring today. Adjacent to the park is a popular bay that offers snorkeling, scuba diving, and perhaps a respectful glimpse of dolphins or whales. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a 90-mile drive to the south, and the Waimea-Kohala Mountains are 60 miles to the north. For a week or so, you can actually "live in Hawaii" instead of just visiting.

  • Recreation and Activities: Swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, fishing, boating, diving, parasailing, hunting, hiking, and horseback riding. Swim with the dolphins.
  • Surrounding Attractions and Special Events: Some of the world's most beautiful beaches are here. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, downtown Kailua, and the Waimea-Kohala Mountains. Monument to Captain Cook. PGA/LPGA tournaments, Ironman Triathlon, and the USTA Challenger Tournament.
  • Recommended Local Restaurants: We provide a list of local restaurants that cater to people who live here. The food is better and the prices are extremely reasonable.
